Case Study - ElectraNet

ElectraNet is South Australia’s leading transmission network service provider (TNSP). The Adelaide Central Reinforcement (ACR) project has been created by ElectraNet in response to a need arising through increased reliability and security of supply obligations for the Adelaide Central Business District. The ACR project is the largest undertaken by the company in its history.

ElectraNet’s overall objectives for integrating sustainable development (SD) considerations throughout the ACR project are to:

  • Establish the ACR project as the first of its kind in Australia to apply a comprehensive sustainability assessment and consideration across all phases of the project lifecycle
  • Ensure the ACR project meets its strategic objectives including maximising shareholder return, pursuing environmental sustainability, managing risks & opportunities, promoting innovation and continuous improvement, and maintain corporate responsibility
  • Establish a leading reputation for ElectraNet in the market for infrastructure projects, and through this set a benchmark for others to follow
  • Be considered ahead of competitors for similar projects, thus creating a competitive advantage.

The foundation of Business Shaper’s service delivery is its project life cycle Sustainability Assessment Tool tailored for infrastructure projects. For this project Business Shaper utilised the tool to provide a practical, outcomes-focused assessment of a project life cycle’s sustainability performance across a number of interrelated SD categories. Using this Tool as the basis of integrating SD into the ACR project, the following streams of ongoing service delivery are currently managed by Business Shaper:

  1. Integrating SD into Substation RFT submission & evaluation process
  2. Development of ACR Project Sustainability Strategy
  3. Project Life Cycle Sustainability measurement and monitoring system
